The Blog
Part performing arts, part travel.

The initial idea of this blog/website was to document something I thought of doing: traveling the World to check out theater and how it’s handled in other places than my home – or how interpretations elsewhere differ from the original. But with time, I realized that 1) I also want a more or less stable work life inside the theater (as stable as it gets in the business), 2) I have been tied down to a specific location due to studies and the economy that follows for quite a while, and 3) it has naturally become more a spare time/vacation thing with a staycation aspect due to the first two points. But I figured that writing about the productions I travel to see and how I get there as well as local productions and how to get here for those interested in that, means to help my travels, etc. could work just as well.

The initial base of doing this was my education (studying dramaturgy at Aarhus University), my eloquent interest in traveling, and sharing what I know and enjoy about where I come from. In the end, I will hopefully accumulate knowledge to use in my professional life, accumulate knowledge and experiences that I can use for presentations and lectures, and of course accumulate experiences and memories to last for life.

Music is taking up quite a bit of space in my life as well. As I perceive music to be a cousin – if not a sibling – of theater (the family being the performing arts), I won’t exclude it as a professional interest. Speaking of live performances, this could be anything from concerts over musicals, operettas, and operas to soundtracks and sound effects in plays. For these reasons, music will also take up a bit of space on the blog. Just about the same goes for comedy (although I’m not a practitioner of this as I am of music); this too could be anything from stand-up over sketch and improv to being a part of the show/production.

As for the future, I hope to get a bit more background knowledge of theater up on the blog. Part of what I wanted to do with this blog was pass on some knowledge. Traveling for stage productions and inspiration may become part of my profession as a dramaturg, given that I specialize in repetoire.

Follow on Twitter at @StageTakeoff. This is the same content as on the blog and then some – be it pocket philosophy, retweeting what I find interesting and remotely relevent, and more – all in 140 characters at a time.
